Lion and the Sun

I was painting this piece for Nowruz (Persian new year) when everything suddenly went sideways in Iran. The internet blackout happened and you probably know the rest.

Every year, I paint my original characters Sepand and Sorkhi, But this year felt different. After everything that happened back in January, life in Iran hasn’t felt the same.

With this piece, I simply wanted to, if it was possible, for only a few minutes to put a smile on people's faces and cheer them up...

A lot has changed since I finished this painting. The rat in the piece is finally gone, and that alone feels like a BIG win!

So hope is still alive, so don’t lose it ✌
